About the "Circle of Wellness" Annual Event
The next event is tentatively scheduled for the April 2009.
Please check back for more information later this year.
People Connected By Cancer is committed to providing information regarding
statewide support and services available throughout the cancer journey
for survivors,
caregivers,
families, and concerned friends of the survivors. A major focus will
be to address survivors' needs as they complete medical treatment and
face a world completely changed by their cancer diagnosis. As one survivor
asked,
“What do you do when the treatments
are over; when the doctors are through, what then?”
The purpose of this event is to provide answers to that question and
more by making available experts in this field, local and national
organizations, and cancer survivors who can provide the necessary information
to answer
that question, “What then?”
Currently, there are approximately 116,000 cancer survivors in Oklahoma
and it is estimated that an additional 65,000 Oklahomans will join the
survivor ranks over the next 5 years. These numbers do not include the
countless number of caregivers, families, and friends who have their
lives significantly altered by this disease. In most cases this group
of Oklahomans is completely unaware of the support and services available
to them simply because this information is not readily available.
The "Circle of Wellness" event provides survivors
and their caregivers and families the opportunity to participate in one-on-one
or small
group interactions to ask their questions, pick-up printed service and
support-related information, learn where to go or call to get help, and
how to join us in providing support for others. Participants, partners,
and
sponsors associated with institutions
and organizations from the entire state of Oklahoma, all brought
together in one place, at one time to
serve and inform cancer survivors in Oklahoma.
